This is an animation I did as a demo reel piece, as well as a promo for my website.

Concept Sketching, Part 2
I've worked out a basic color scheme. Next, I'll be refining the drawing and adding detail before moving on to the final color.

Concept Sketching
Some
sketches for a short comic I'm drawing. I think I'm going to use the
boat drawing for a digital painting I need to do for class.

Background Development, Part 2
Cinnamon Onion Pops
So this is a project I conceived several years ago and held on to the idea until about six months ago when I decided to use it for my special effects class.
All of the character animation was hand drawn on paper, then inked in Flash. The backgrounds and some of the three dimensional elements were done in Maya, while everything was put together in After Effects. All with the help of some of my talented friends.
Just for funzies, here's the original box design I did in 2009 and the new one I did for this project in 2011.

Background Development
I'm currently developing a series for television, or even possibly the web. I plan on showing some more as the pilot develops.
Here are some of the background designs, along with some color tests.
The method I've been using lately for this kind of work is first sketching out the drawing with SketchbookPro. Then I block out the shades using the marker tool. There's no utilitarian reason for using the blue really, it just seems natural and looks nice.
After saving it out as a .psd, I take my drawing into Photoshop and adjust the hues of the main parts of the drawing to work out a color scheme. I'm not sure how I feel about the one above. The purple sky and yellow buildings feel off, and the perspective is a little too wonky (I only wanted a little wonkiness),but that's what concept drawings are for, right?
Here's the original concept. I made some subtle changes to help describe the environment better like switching the coffee station and the fridge so one isn't blocking the other.

Sofa Shannisford Falls In Love
This is a short film I started a little over a year ago. I just recently got around to finishing it up. It was fun to explore this sort of girly, cutesy style. It's not something I'm used to doing. I liked it so much I might do a sequel in the future.
For this project (as with most of my projects) I used a combination of Flash and After Effects.
My New Bloggington
I'm not exactly sure how to start a blog, so I'll do it by introducing myself and explaining the purpose of this blog.
My name is Josh Halford and I'm a cartoonist/animator currently living in the Tampa Bay area. I moved from my hometown of Springfield, IL in 2008 to go back to college and get my Bachelor's of Fine Arts. I will be graduating from the Art Institute of Tampa this summer.
This blog is meant to showcase what I'm currently working on, as well as discuss my methods. If you didn't reach this blog from my website, check out http://joshhalford.com
